Nest Interiors is a full-service interior decorating company based in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Founded by Michelle van Niekerk in 2009, Nest Interiors began as a small passion project and has since blossomed into a thriving business known for its personalised touch, attention to detail, and commitment to exceptional design.

The journey of Nest Interiors began in 2008 when a close friend sparked the idea of decorating in Michelle’s mind. With her entrepreneurial spirit and natural creativity, Michelle didn’t let much time pass before she decided to pursue formal studies in interior decorating. At the time, her youngest daughter, Emily, was only three years old, but Michelle’s determination to create something meaningful pushed her forward.

Starting from humble beginnings in the small town of Somerset East, what began as a hobby soon outgrew Michelle’s home office. By 2009, Nest Interiors had established its first showroom in town. The name “Nest” itself holds a special significance—Michelle’s son Daniel’s Belgian godfather gifted her a magazine titled Nest during one of his visits to South Africa. Inspired by this gesture, Michelle added a feather to symbolise warmth, comfort, and creativity, bringing Nest Interiors to life.

In 2019, while collecting an order from a local group of seamstresses, she learned that their leader had passed away, and they were on the verge of closing their business. Moved by their situation, Michelle made the decision to employ the three women, integrating their craftsmanship into Nest Interiors. Without a formal plan, the team began manufacturing from Michelle’s home office, and by September 2019, after extensive renovations, the official Nest Interiors office opened its doors at 161 Main Road, Walmer.

Today, Nest Interiors is a family of ten dedicated employees who collaborate to bring beautiful spaces to life. We offer a wide range of services, from consultations to the manufacturing of custom soft furnishings. Our team works closely with residential and commercial clients, architects, developers, and building contractors, ensuring seamless projects from concept to completion. Whether you need help selecting fixtures and finishes or transforming an entire space, we’re here to craft solutions tailored to your vision.
